Student Category Entry Details.
Imagine that you are remodeling a kitchen for a family of four with
two boys, ages 18 and 20 who have lots of friends visiting. They have a total of
650 square feet to work with. You determine the configuration. The kitchen must
have a full-size Sub-Zero along with Wolf cooking equipment. Let your imagination
be your guide in designing the space into a functional and beautiful kitchen that
can take a pounding. The budget, including construction, is $250,000. Entrants must
be NKBA student members and/or enrolled as students at a college or university.
Entries from graduating students will be accepted if the postmark is prior to
graduation and before the deadline. Projects entered must have been completed by
an individual student designer. No co-designers are permitted. Students may use
the 2008-09 NKBA Student Design Competition project for this contest.
Student entries must include all of the following:
- Floor plan reflecting NKBA Planning Guidelines using NKBA Graphics and Presentation
Standards fully dimensioned in ½" scale.
- Wall elevations showing the Sub-Zero and Wolf products using NKBA Graphics and Presentation
Standards fully dimensioned in ½" scale.
- Perspective views of the kitchen that best show the Sub-Zero and Wolf products (may
be in color).
- 500-word essay describing your hypothetical family and any unique situations faced
in completing the job. We want to hear about design challenges and how you overcame
them. Include interesting stories about the family.
- Color renderings demonstrating the materials that will be used in the design. Drawings
must be clean, easy to understand and professionally presented. However, they must
be no larger than 11" x 17" and submitted unframed and unmounted.
If you are mailing your entry, do not put entry materials in a binder or portfolio. Personal
identification must not appear anywhere permanently on the drawings or material board.
